Meeting Today’s Challenges / Creating Tomorrow’s Promise
Federation members develop educational programs, conferences, training and consultation to meet the needs of the states and communities they serve. While the work is focused to the human relations issues and needs of each state and community, several key bodies of work remain constant and have become hallmarks of the National Federation for Just Communities’ member organizations. Program Philosophy
The member organizations of the National Federation for Just Communities share a common commitment to creating inclusive, respectful, and just communities. These principles guide our work. We actively work to dismantle all forms of prejudice and discrimination, promoting respect, understanding, and equality for all people. Our role is to educate, advocate, and address conflict relative to issues of discrimination and inequality of individuals and groups within our communities. We focus on developing and implementing programs to address issues relating to religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, economic and social class, age, ability status, and immigration status. We acknowledge the dynamics of power and privilege, and the role they play in creating attitudes, behavior, and practices and that all members of society are impacted by bias and discrimination.
- Youth Leadership Development
- Through a series of programs, Federation members provide youth leadership development education for elementary, high school and college students. Diversity education focuses on the development of peer leadership to improve inter-group relations and take participants from awareness to action on issues of bias and discrimination in school communities across the country. Programs are held as residential summer programs, in-school education, weekend retreats and total student body activities.
- Adult Leaders
- Working with today’s leaders helps to build strong support for the social fabric of communities and lives across the country. Programs, workshops, training and consultation are provided to business, community, government, faith and education leaders. Offerings provide customized programs designed to educate and empower leaders on issues of diversity and inclusion in their own spheres of influence.
- Community
- The art of dialogue, conflict management and facilitated conversations are often the keys to meaningful exchanges and significant understanding. Federation members work to develop and implement meaningful conversations and mediations to ease tensions, open doors to improvement and understanding and break down the barriers of prejudice and discrimination in municipalities, organizations and communities.
- Workplace
- The workplace is the meeting place of America’s demographic changes. Businesses, institutions from the public and private sector and organizations across the country are seeking to meet their goals by maximizing their employees’ talents through workplace training and consultation provided by Federation members.
- Public Policy & Research
- Social justice issues are reflected in all aspects of our interactions with each other – education, workplace, government, civic and community life. Federation members deal with issues of public policy focusing on topical issues. Research to measure attitudes and actions, progress on social issues and practices helps to inform and guide program development and implementation.
